The corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanum), also known as the stinky plant, is on display at the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory. Once fully open, the plant may remain in bloom for 24 to 48 hours, and then it will collapse quickly.

The Reston Regional Library will host “Smokey Bear and Friends” from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.  on Thursday, Aug. 11. Come and meet Smokey Bear, learn about his life and how “Only You can Prevent Wildfires.” For ages 6-12 only, no younger children or adults. Free. Click here to register.

Reston Hospital Center (1850 Town Center Pkwy.) will host Breastfeeding Class from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. The comprehensive, introductory course is designed to educate and assist with common breastfeeding questions and prepare expectant mothers with the information and tools they need to support their breastfeeding experience. Classes are taught by RN, IBCLCs and include information on the physiology of lactation, promoting milk supply, normal newborn feeding behavior, breast pumping and milk storage. Class fees of $70 include registrant and one additional adult.
