In preparation for the upcoming Fairfax County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors hearings, Supervisor Catherine Hudgins, together with the Reston Association, will hold a community meeting at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive about the St. John’s Wood redevelopment project at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. Brian Winterhalter, on behalf of the Bozzuto Group, will share the project status, information on the application, receive community input and address questions. The next National Night Out Against Crime will be Wednesday, Aug. 3. Join your friends and neighbors on and send a loud, clear message to criminals: Don’t mess with us!

Reston Association (RA) will host “Totally Trucks” from 9:30 a.m. to noon (ongoing) Friday, Aug. 5, at its Central Services Facility (12250 Sunset Hills Road). Bring the kids and check out all the big trucks that RA uses to keep Reston beautiful. In addition, a police and fire truck may be on display. Children will receive a “Totally Trucks” construction helmet. Rain or shine. No registration required. Free. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

RA and Friends of Reston will host “Summer Shorts Film Fest” from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Walker Nature Center (11450 Glade Drive). Join us inside for some of the coolest short films that shed new light on environmental topics in concise, creative and quirky ways. Popcorn and drinks for sale.
