Next: Defense contractor General Dynamics is looking towards Reston as the location for a new headquarters building, located off of Sunset Hills Road.

The company announced two weeks ago that it intends to build a 190,000-square-foot headquarters on a 22-acre lot currently owned by Boston Properties. Locals complain that the building will cause additional traffic on the already-busy Sunset Hills Road.

Also: The rise of foodie culture has made home-cooking more alluring to everyone, and the increase in dual-income families means more men are sharing KP duties. At the same time, cooking has been “recoded” as a macho pastime. —WSJ, “Is the kitchen the new man cave?”, Jan. 28, 2016

This weekend: The 2016 Polar Dip is 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Lane Anne Village Center. Registration starts at noon. Proceeds benefit Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine, which provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness.

Camp Sunshine is the only program in the nation offered year-round with the distinction of having been designed to serve the entire family in a retreat model. The program is free of charge to families and includes on-site medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement sessions are also offered for families who have experienced the death of a child from a supported illness.

It is Camp Sunshine’s goal to raise in excess of $125,000 in 2016 — enough to send 50 families from the Mid-Atlantic area (including VA/MD/DC/DE/PA/WV/NC) to attend Camp Sunshine. All participants who raise at least $100 will receive a highly coveted “I DID IT” event tshirt!

Too scared or too smart to take the plunge? There’s the option to participate in the “Chicken Dip” – where you’ll only need to dip your toes in!
